Dealing with contingencies

HVAC woes #

All kinds of fun this week. Had a service call for a tuneup on my HVAC system on Tuesday, and found out that the coil had rusted out so that there was virtually no refrigerant left. AND that the compressor motor had been leaking oil, so there was no way to know how much (if any) oil was left.

We ended up working with the contractor (whom I've used for years) to get a replacement installed yesterday - more efficient than the old unit, at a reasonable price - but it's still money that I was hoping to keep in savings for a rainy day. I guess all of the rain (it's been raining the last three weeks at least once a day) decided to trigger the need to use the rainy day fund or something.

The hope is that it will no longer need to run constantly to fight to keep the temperature at least livable (I'm fairly confident that it will). If so, my electric grid usage should fall significantly (which will help to keep the electric bill manageable - it was getting quite high).

And then there's the car... #

Plus one of the relatively new tires on my car has been losing pressure, which likely means I picked up a nail or something. I need to find time to get an appointment with Firestone to get it looked at and repaired. Hopefully the road hazard warranty is still in effect, because I'm running out of money for contingencies. I need a few months without contingency spending to start rebuildng the cushion.

Signing off for now #

Still finding it challenging to find time to actually write in a blog. Need to remember to keep moving forward.
